Fi Controller Installation Guide

Before you Start,  Determine if your existing GARAGE DOOR OPENER BUTTON is a Wire Push Button or a Radio Push Button. There are two types of garage systems,  one type operates based on Resistive Capacitive and the other operates based on Radio Signals to control the garage motor.

The installation procedure is different for the two types. Determine which garage type you have by taking a look closely at the Circuit board after you pop off the front panel. If the Circuit board is simple with only resistors and push buttons like the pictures below, then it is TYPE 1 – Wire Push Button.

Type1: Wire Push Button
This type uses Resistive and Capacitive to trigger the garage motor to operate. It has a very simple circuit with few components. This is very common among older garage openers and the lower end models. Follow these steps to check for a Wire Push Button.

Step1: Remove the front panel.

Step 2: Remove the wires connected to it and take out the Circuit board.
Step 3: Check if the Circuit Board is Simple like this picture below then you have Type1.

Type2: Radio Push Button
This type use radio signal to operate garage motor. The circuitry is very complex and is common among higher end garage door opener models. Follow these steps to check if you have a Radio Push Button.

Step1: Remove the front panel.
Step 2: Remove wires and take out the Circuit Board.
If the Circuit board is very complex with many components.  Then you have a Radio Push Button.
